Be transported by VUYISEKA feat. Coco Favre at the Wellington Jazz Festival on June 9, 6-8pm

VUYISEKA (loosely translated as ‘to bring joy’ in Xhosa) is a Wellington based trio featuring Eddie Petersen (keyboards), Blain Fitzpatrick (bass), Jacob Randall (drums) and Steffen Goeres (guitar/trumpet). Multilingual Coco Favre will be joining them on vocals to showcase their musical snapshot of beautiful, decadent jazz from Latin America and beyond.

Eddie Petersen, Classical Guitar, Bass, Piano, Vocals
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Eddie has studied classical guitar and performed as a concert guitarist between 1977 and 1982. A member of the Classical Guitar society at the University of Cape Town, he composed music scores for stage productions and operated a music studio doing pre-production work for solo artists and groups whilst teaching guitar for private students and day school. Eddie has been in numerous bands in and around Cape Town as a keyboard/piano player and moved to NZ in 1998. Here he has worked with many local musicians with a wide variety of genres with a slight bias towards Brazilian Bossa and Samba.

Blain Fitzpatrick, Bass Guitar
Blain is a born and bred Wellingtonian with almost twenty years musical experience. His forte is bass guitar with contributions towards a range of genres, including - Carnatic Fusion, Jazz, Soul, Funk and Rock. Blain is in his element whilst tutoring, touring Aotearoa and when he's pushing limits and stereotypes via improvisation and jamming. The highlight of his musical career so far has been playing with Jon Mulvey on tour whilst opening for Joe Satriani last year. In Blain's own words "Music (and it's variety) can be used as a universal language to transcend the barriers within everyday societies."

Jacob Randall, Drums
Jacob is a drummer based in Wellington. He has been playing drums for 21 years and enjoys playing a wide variety of music. Aside from playing shows around NZ and recording work he has placed in and won drumming competitions nationally and internationally.

Steffen Goeres, Guitar and Trumpet
Born and raised in Germany, Steffen studied classical guitar and trumpet at the Richard Strauss Conservatorium in Munich, then jazz at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles. Playing everything from classical concerts to studio sessions to band gigs and tours in Europe, Steffen moved to New Zealand in 1993 where he quickly established himself as a professional musician. Steffen also inspires hundreds of students through his teaching at secondary schools. Steffen’s professionalism and musical talents are indisputable, combining harmonic sounds, catchy melodies and smooth grooves to deliver a quality experience to any audience.

Coco Favre, Multilingual Vocalist (sings in 6 different languages), Drums, Percussion
Born and raised in Switzerland, multi-talented Coco has toured Europe, Mexico and North Africa both as a singer and a dancer. She has collaborated with many bands all over the world and has worked as a session singer in Geneva, Switzerland and New Zealand for over 20 years. Coco will be showcasing more Latin jazz and will be singing some of Latin America’s favourite love songs (Boleros), The Brazilian Bossa and some French classics as well as songs off her very own jazz album ‘Introducing…Coco Favre’. Currently, she is working on her original music as well as teaching private vocal lessons from her home studio in Upper Hutt.
